In any time of well-being, most people, or a very large proportion of the population and the influential population, attributes the favourable situation to their own excellence and intelligence, and therefore takes leave of the problems of those who are left behind. And one can regret that human beings can be so indifferent as to the suffering, the hunger, medical disasters, living disasters of other human beings, but it is an eminent part of the human character.
